Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot including angels, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of heroes who will separate from the main group to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group knows exactly where to head next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—used the foes for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and advises that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as important members in House Halovar could help the group reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Questers and Schemers tables.

Audiences can expect discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
